Jiading District, referred to as “疁”, is a municipal district of Shanghai, formerly known as Jiading County, located in the northwest suburb of Shanghai. On October 11, 1992, the county was removed to build a district. As early as the Three Kingdoms period, temples were built here, and later a temple fair was formed. In the Tang Dynasty, many market towns appeared in eastern Kunshan, such as Lianqi City (Jiading Town) and Luxi City (Nanxiang Town). In the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the population here gradually increased, so it was set aside from Kunshan and Jiading County was established separately. During the Yuan Dynasty, Jiading developed rapidly, the population increased again, and Jiading County was upgraded to a state. During the Ming Dynasty, Jiading changed back to the county level and was under the administration of Suzhou. During the Qing Dynasty, Jiading County was basically in a period of war. In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the original government and prefecture were abolished, and Jiading was directly under Jiangsu Province. In the 16th year of the Republic of China (1927), after the National Revolutionary Army conquered Jiading, the road was abolished, and Jiading was once again directly under Jiangsu Province. In 22 (1933) of the Republic of China, an administrative inspection area was newly established, and Jiading County was under the jurisdiction of the sixth administrative inspection area of Jiangsu Province. After the Battle of Songhu, Jiading fell. In February of the 30th year of the Republic of China (1941), Wang Jingwei’s regime changed Jiading County to Jiading District and belonged to the Shanghai Special City it established. In February of the 32nd year of the Republic of China, Jiading District was renamed Jiading Special District, and in April it was the first administrative inspectorate of Shanghai Special City. In the 33rd year of the Republic of China, Jiading Special District was renamed Jiading County. In the 34th year of the Republic of China, the victory of the Anti-Japanese War was restored, and Jiading County belonged to the Second Administrative Inspectorate of Jiangsu Province. In the 38th year of the Republic of China (1949), it was relocated to the Songjiang area of the southern Jiangsu administrative region. In 1952, Jiading County belonged to the Songjiang Prefecture of Jiangsu Province. In 1958, it was relocated to Shanghai to this day.
