Abrar Fahad killing: Are Bangladesh campus political wings out of control? | DW News

Less than 48 hours after Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed a water sharing deal, Abrar Fahad, a university student in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka was murdered because of it. Fahad was tortured and killed by fellow students for nearly four hours on campus. His crime was having posted on Facebook that he was unhappy with the water-sharing deal. His attackers are allegedly from a student body called Bangladesh Chhatra League, which is linked to Hasina’s ruling Awami League. At least 11 suspects have been arrested by the police and the Prime Minister has promised justice.

Bangladesh is rapidly growing economy since Sheikh Hasina took over. They were at 5-6 in 2015 and good 8% during her regime. I think students must keep themselves away from cheap politics and genuinely work for betterment of nation. At the same time govt and people must respect democratic values. Students can't be killed just for expressing their political views!

There is no freedom of speech in Bangladesh. The last two elections were not free and fair. The ruling party is controlling the country with iron fist. Free and fair elections are preconditions to create healthy democratic environment. That’s gone for sure. It’s a sad saga.

Khaled Mohiuddin should practice English regularly. His English is atrocious.

How come he is popular in Bangladesh? As a Bangladeshi, I am absolutely gutted to see his level of communication.

The quality in journalism in Bangladesh seems very poor at international level and extremely biased.
