Okay but (as a French person that voted) you cleared don't understand that being corporate in France is nothing like being corporate in America and France has hundreds of social policies. We don't need are Bernie Sanders because we already have like universal health care and free colleges. We don't need a social revolution. We need a political one. Because unlike in America where it is a myth, in France too much government regulation chasing away business is a real thing. That's why I assume 60% of people voted Marcon for his stand on the economy (the other % is… Read more »

marine le pen is not like donald trump.  on a lot of issues she is more similar to jill stein and the green party than donald trump and the republicans: she wants universal healthcare , she wants to protect worker's rights  and social security as well as give good pensions to people who worked for 40 years.  she opposes delocalisation. she is anti war and opposes massive surveillance . on the same issues macron is more similar to donald trump and your republican party:  he wants to privatize healthcare , make flexibility by destroying worker's rights , decrease wages , decrease… Read more »

After the world saw Trump get elected here in the U.S. when they thought it was impossible, everyone probably got scared shitless and got their asses up to go vote for that to not happen in France.

Germany dominates Europe, England fights back, France surrenders. European politics haven't changed much in 70 years.

I think you're the only american commentator who understands who Marcon is.

I've heard you say in the past that you'd be a centrist in Europe, so why do you want a populist left revolution in France?

A kick in the nuts for the far right!

Leftist populism can get a little ridiculous too. It's something we never have to humor in the US since here our government is so conservative, but in Europe it's different. Just because you hear the word Centrist, don't equate that with what we have here. I'm sure it's a hell of a lot more liberal.

i honestly was very sad le pen lost i felt her to want to go to far on immigration but i loved her protectionism and economic views. and well i hated her but also hate macron

The mere fact that Le Pen didn't win restores my hope in humanity. From what was presented to us here in the States, she seemed batshit insane, even more far-right than Trump. Plus, her politics aside, she looked like a terrible person in general. But what can you expect? Someone who grows up with a Holocaust denier for a father isn't exactly going to grow up into a cheery, kind person.

Le Pen lost because three million immigrants voted illegally! (This is sarcasm; no letters please.)

Melenchon lost to Le Pen by a few tenths of a percent. Otherwise it would have been Melenchon versus Macron in the final election.

A centrist in Europe is like Bernie Sanders in the United States. We are so damn Conservative that we think Sanders is far-left. In reality, we need Sanders like leaders because he is actually centrist. It is no wonder that we pay taxes yet still lack Universal healthcare (over 50 Democratic countries from Canada, to Europe to Australia to Japan to Taiwan to South Korea, etc has had it for decades), high-speed rail and affordable Public Universities.

Get the hijabs ready French ladies.  Within 15 years you'll be wearing them, whether you want to or not.

You do realize Marine is a socialist on economic issues right? The only right wing about her is she's for closed borders. She's not a far-right in any way.

I think it's a different situation in France. They have mass immigration issues and a terrorist attack every other week. I think the country could use a little downplay on the "tolerance" of Islam.

one question kyle: when does a party become "centrist – neoliberal" in your mind? Because in your video you explain that "populist leftism" is the only solution to the far right. But i think that argument is flawed, since the political spectrum in france is far more to the left than in America. One example might have been if bernie sander would've won in the 2016 election and public opinon would have followed – shifting the amercan spectrum to the left. would then, in your mind, the solution be to look further to the left?

France didn't need a better representative of populist left. They need coverage for fuck sake. The entire MSM systematically ignored Melanchon the entire election. I read every single MSM media coverage of the election for 100 days straight and did not know Melanchon existed until the media was FORCED to give coverage on him during the final debate in the first round of voting. Sad.

This was a landslide victory for Macron! But French people need to be vigilant about the rise of the far right in the country and in Europe in general…

Let's point out that Le Pen makes the same arguments Native Americans make .that the national Front today is not the same as it was years ago. For example the Democrats supported slavery and a post women rights to vote.

Can I point out that he work for the rothschilds banks he worked for the last president of France and there's evidence he has an office or a bank account and he won because he told a lot of lies. He is part of the establishment and lied when he said he was against the Establishment

Tony Zan

The lesser of 2 evils won. Too bad the populist leftist only got 20% of the vote.

Isn't Macron chosing hundreds of people for his staff who never held a political post?

Sam

she lost because she is a socialist. Not because she is far right. + she got the most votes she has ever had.

Dking

If you look at it Kyle there is a populist left I forget his name but the former communist got 20% of the vote plus 6 more from another far left winger brings you to 26% which if I remember correctly is more than Le Pen.
Edit: The one who got 20% is FIllion and the one who got 6 is Hamon

Democratic socialism, it's socialism any way you cut it, it doesn't fucking work dude, free market capitalism works, I'm not partism man, I've voted either way but to far left or right is not good, and I'm not gonna lie I voted for Trump
