Remember the good ol days of buying a game in full without DLC or micro transactions?

It's true, I like microtransactions. I'm actually surprised that so many of you don't like them. Through microtransactions I can ensure Overwatch keeps getting supported and updated for years to come and that's something I want. Obviously, there are some shady variants: I'm thinking about that style of microtransaction used in Assassins Creed Unity for example. But I just ignored these and I was fine.

I'm pretty sure this is the whale conundrum.
Like 1 person spending enough to raise the average for 50 people.

But we'd need to analyze the actual data to be sure of that.

I personally don't purchase games if I know it's going to have microtransactions, particularly if it's P2W-based. I stopped purchasing Assassin's Creed games after I found out the last one I purchased (1st one to have them) had them. What they need to realize is by making an announcement that ALL games are going to have them, they are going to drive off a lot of customers that don't like them, then they are going to start getting a true value of those that won't purchase from them anymore & what the offset is in microtransactions. Long story short, they… Read more »

Take a good look people. This is the future of gaming (or at least AAA gaming).

Yea it's the kids and teens nowadays that like micro transactions. It's ingrained into their culture now.

Yeah, because we should all trust what a gaming company says when it comes to sales stats. WTF ever!

Microtransactions are not ALL bad. Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Siege has micro transactions that people are willing to pay for, but all gameplay related content is free: new map are free and new operators are free. So we have the best of both worlds : the developers/publishers keep making money after launch so that they can support the game for a far bigger life cycle with amazing content free for everyone. We're already going into our 8th free DLC and the third year of free content !!!

At this point, I believe there will be a point where player need to buy ammo with cash in FPS game, if the game becomes popular.

Welp time to give up on new games and just replay some great ol classics through again.

Don't you love how the world works?
Can we have R-rated/Adult games? No, vulnerable people may be affected.
Can we protect vulnerable people from microtransactions? Sorry, I can't hear you over all this MONEY!!!

Aren't they just lumping together season passes and dlc with microtransactions? Even so, publishers are creating a bubble and it will burst at some point….

Have they concidered its the same ppl paying micro transaction and continue putting money into it which makes ip for why they think we like it when its just a few dping it

Well technically know team, owning a ps4 or xbox and paying for there live service is paying just to use online features and lets be real consoles offline are useless so really you are paying to play consoles or just owning 1.

I call them MACRO-TRANSACTIONS because they cost more than the game itself. 100$ purchase you call it micro?

Bejewelled stick sounds far more sophisticated than sceptre. It sounds like something worthy of buying via a micro transaction. The pay to win scenario is a huge turn off to playing online games for me. Knowing I'm going to have my ass handed to me on a platter because someone else can afford to unlock better weapons by spending irl money just takes the fun out of playing. Unfortunately people these days have the mindset of wanting things now, must get it now, don't wait or grind for it, just get it now.

shrugs I didn't buy Battlefront 2 or Destiny 2 (though a friend bought Destiny 2 for me anyway so… meh). I'm not spending money on games with microtransactions anymore. I have plenty of games in my backlog to play.

Also, just reading "monetize that engagement" makes me feel dirty.

When this bubble pops it'll probably take a big chunk of the industry down with it

Micro transactions break game immersion. While you escape the real world why would you use real world money? Then you're not playing games right.

Games are turning into a Las Vegas Casino real fast. People put money in and the screen flashes "you're a winner!"
Just watch Skinner's pigeons or learning box. Game companies see humans the exact same way.

I doubt it will be long until a Dev will make us pay $60 for what will essentially be a 2-hour demo. Then we will have to hand over another $10 for the next hour and so on and so forth. Microtransactions are headed down a bad road that we can all see.

SpaghettiandSauce

Oh well, there's several hundred games released in the last ten years that don't have micro-transactions, and that I wanted to play but never got round to. That should keep me busy for the next coupe of decades.

Micro-Transactions are why Free to Play games survive. If I've spent money buying a game I don't want Micro-Transactions however if if I haven't I don't mind them.

I wonder how many people actually use microtransactions? And to what extend?

We gaming companies love micro transactions so you gamers do too, we said so!

The only time I see micro transactions as okay is when the game is free like warframe or rocket league

This is why I wait years to purchase games. I can get games with all DLC for less than $20 and sometimes much less than that.
