George Washington, A Novice General

At the start of the Revolutionary War, it had been seventeen years since General George Washington last wore a military uniform and he was only a provincial officer with limited experience in frontier combat. But it quickly became clear, Washington was instinctively, brilliantly, a political general.

Rick Atkinson, best-selling author and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, explores the Revolutionary War in a new trilogy. Learn more: https://www.mountvernon.org/rickatkinson

Thank God we had George Washington! As far as Congress being ineffectual, history repeats itself.

Love George Washington! Love all our great Heroes! I'm proud Hispanics were there fighting the British! Spaniards, Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and Venezuelans served in the Spanish army of Louisiana Governor Bernardo de Galvez! Galvez rode on Washington's right side in America's first Fourth of July parade celebration! I wonder what they talked about and how. Since Galvez only spoke Spanish and French. Washington only spoke English. There must have been translators present I reckon. God bless America!
