The new book 'Khaki Capital: The Political Economy of the Military in Southeast Asia' might interest some of you, as it is the first book to scrutinize the linkage between income sources of militaries and their political power in Southeast Asia. It explores the military-industrial complex in the region and focuses on how much economic clout Southeast Asian militaries have had and how this has influenced civil–military relations. This current Thai Monarch is in serious trouble, he doesn't hold the love of his subjects or the respect of his politicians like his father, it's going to be an interesting ride.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as independent research.

Thank you, I really like your videos. Your logo is nice as well, the knight and the rook – it symbolizes to me how all of the minor changes in the world, just like the movements of the 'minor' pieces on the chessboard, really drive the actions of all of the major pieces.

One of the very few non-European countries that impressed me.
I love strong and independent people, that are not too stupid and this fits to Thais.

Military dictatorship, like many other things, has its good and bad.

Weirdly inconsistent video. Very informative about the 1930s to 70s, but rushed the period thereafter, barely scratching the surface of the huge changes in the 1990s, and not a single mention of the name Shinawatra (how is that even possible?). It's almost like the author gave up halfway through reading a book on the country's modern history.

4:10 "post world war 1 economic depression of 1990 hit Siam, which was closely followed by the great depression of 1929" Is this an error or did i miss something

Also Phibun is pronounced "Pii-Bun" The H is silent.

Besides that, this is very well made. It's pretty accurate for a 13 minute video.
