Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Just to respond to the most common suggestion — I will be changing the IP addresses! 😅

I have found that static IP works best for stability.

The IP Camera web interface looks very much like that on a Hikvision camera.

We have a home surveillance system as well. We use Ubiquiti hardware and software. Pretty easy to set up and since one person in the house does this kind of thing for a living (Home automation and security systems) this is what he chose as the least painful to set up with reasonable costs. We've had this running for over two years with no issues and even decided to add 2 more cameras for better coverage. This, of course, isn't nearly as cheap as pure DIY but it is good for the hairline and sanity. He uses a different system… Read more »

Level 1 just did a good video explaining these types of cameras.

I am very interested in learning about any camera that can connect to a PC wireless. I am using Arlo cameras only because I could not find any way to connect off the shelf camera to my PC over wireless connection.

Hey this is exactly how we all figure this stuff out, I actually like this type of video, how about a noob video on explaining how all the IP addresses work,I'm still kind of lost in that kind of stuff

I install hikvision stuff for a living. I agree with IamSoldat posts for the most part.

I'm very amused that all the programs and webui stuff looks exactly the same as all the Hikvision stuff I use daily only it's "Platinum" branded.

I have always found something apealing about those little CD/DVDs. Most CD/DVD drives have a smaller inner part to hold these drives, you will definatley notice it if your drive ejects the tray out!

Riser vs Plenum cable refers to fire safety when installed inside your walls.

its not paranoia to have the cameras on a separate switch.. its mandatory as your internet connection will get hammered if its on your standard network.

I don’t know if you’re on a diet or whatever but you’re looking skinnier than usual! Good job Paul!

I'm using Wyze cameras with the phone app, cheap as hell and good quality.

Contacam is a garbage setup, after all of the comments saying the same I'm not sure why you didn't jump over to a Linux + Zoneminder or MotionEyeOS setup.

ssd is an all around bad idea for security cams

Check out Crosstalk Solutions on youtube he sets up unifi NVR on linux all the time step by step. That may point you in the right direction for setting things up. I have setup a full unifi video system on my home server with out an issue to an 8g WD Purple drive.

Hi thanks for this. I have been wanting to install a security system for a while now and I didn't want to sign up to a subscription service and not know what they can see and when they can see it. I will be following this series of videos closely. Thanks!

Use Blue Iris software it has motion or continuous recording also and if you have intel CPU it can take advantage of hardware acceleration. It has so many features but the best part my outside cams I have setup motion no alert and created another new camera in the software and made it hidden and setup cross zoning it will track objects and if they cross a line you can make it do alert run a script etc. so basically anyone that walks on to my property I get alert on my phone 0 false alerts. Takes some fine tuning.
