Final point – Iran is not signalling that they will start a nuclear weapons program, but rather that they will no longer abide by the terms of an agreement which the strongest party is violating completely. Iran never had a nuclear weapons program, and – unless the "Ayatollahs" are overthrown, they are unlikely to ever have one. They are making a stand on principle – after all, one doesn't "defend" oneself with nuclear weapons, but rather commits a retaliatory blow of mass-murder as one goes down. It is better to fight honourably and be defeated than to "win" like Israel… Read more »

The only reason Iran would want The Bomb is for deterrence. The U.S. has made clear that having nukes is the only way any country gets to have Real sovereignty (freedom from U. S. threats of, and actual, aggression).

The calm and lucidity in your analysis and comments make this a very strong and instructive episode.

Too bad about Worf. Might have just been a bad day for the Michael Dorn. Data- Brent Spiner- was a jerk at our local con here in upstate NY. So much so I didnt even get the photo and I'm still turned off when watching him now. But I do have tell myself maybe it was a bad day for him or something.

I had the pleasure of doing fencing displays at LASFS . Most of the Star Trek performers are very kind and social people. Yeah, Worf is a jerk. No biggie.

There might also be the issue of if the S400 is spread too much this might degrade its effectiveness. The more the enemy can listen to the signals the weapon emits, the more it can develop counter measures.

The big problem with the Patriot systems – though the S-400s are likely better – is that they won't shoot down US bombers when they change their mind and go "regime change" on you. It is kind of funny watching the endless "serious warnings" against Turkey to not but them – obviously it is going to be strategically devastating for the US to lose Turkey from NATO. So it isn't surprising that Turkey is just carrying on with the deal. They already had one coup attempt – and it was Russia, according to reliable reports, that tipped Erdogan off and… Read more »

An important point to note about the Iranian government stopping its commitments to sell x amount of heavy water every year – the US sanctions actually prevent anyone from buying it, so it is literally impossible to fulfil that part of the deal. With such behaviour, why continue playing the game – especially when the EU just wrings hands and sounds sympathetic. Until Iran does this and then they are suddenly full of righteous indignation! The hypocrisy is just disgraceful.

I’m sorry Jamarl but Iran is breaking out of the deal to enrich uranium for a bomb. This is apparent. That said I think they are because they feel like they need a insurance policy to stop a invasion which they feel is coming. This would be a common sense reaction to trumps constant threat of attack. This may have started to get a power source but seems to me it’s escalated to a defense measure
