Iraqi police reportedly deployed live ammunition and tear gas to disperse anti-government protesters, after raiding key protest areas and setting fire to protesters’ tents in central Baghdad on Saturday.

Footage shows burning tents and hundreds of protesters running, with some trying to tame the flames. Protesters could also be seen running from tear gas fired at them by police.

Reports say clashes erupted after government authorities raided Tahrir square removing concrete barriers and removing the tents where anti-government demonstrators have camped out for months.

Unrest in Iraq began in October, amid anger over corruption and economic inequality. Over 400 protesters have been killed and thousands more injured during demonstrations.
