He would be too proud to try that route. He has diverse mental issues and disorders, Lord knows, but he's not insane. He also has no ideology like a Hitler, his only obsession is with himself.

I believe Donald Trump has early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. My father died from this and he couldn’t follow a train of thought. He began making up things about himself that were out and out lies. But he didn’t know he was Lying 🤥. It’s very sad actually. He is incompetent and should be removed because of his state of mind. Being unable to read papers forgetting g that the press conference is to sign something and he walks out of the room without signing the papers Even after his people touched his shoulder trying to remind him. He is… Read more »

Insanity defense for what? This guys a joke. If Hillary taught this country anything, it's that ties to the White House means that you can't be charged with anything! Or is that just the corrupt left?

Nope – his family will announce that he has Alzheimer's disease – that avoids claiming that he is bat-shit crazy, removes any chance of invoking the 25th amendment and because there are so many elderly people with Alzheimer's it will probably get the useless piece of shit a lot of sympathy

My major is criminal justice… he won't get off on an insanity defense. People see it on tv shows and think it's common. With pleading insanity the crime usually resembles a crime of passion as in it happens suddenly without any kind of planning. I have a feeling Mueller has a paper trail.

We are getting WAY ahead of ourselves here.

Trump is simply a horrible human being. You give excuses when you attach labels. 'It's not my fault. Do not give him the chance. He is not fit company in polite society. Ignore him. Watch him crumble.

Of those found innocent by reason of insanity almost all are sent to a mental health or psychiatric facility for an "indeterminate " sentence. Its hard to get out. And there is no date set for release by the court, its up to doctors.

Trump would rather go to prison for the rest of his life than say that he's insane.

So many are in thrall to Trump. I think this is an evolved behaviour that ensures coherence within tribes such that they can prevail when attacked. It is like a form of hypnosis. It is a behaviour that surfaces as a response to charismatic leaders. Hitler is the classic example. JFK had such charisma. It can be bad, it can be good. Depends on the individual. But in the case of Trump, it is hard to rationalise it as being good, when he is unstable, and holds the nuclear codes. Those in thrall to him however will find any rationalisation… Read more »

Dementia: Imagine if he nuked a country and could not remember. Would he then be culpable?

I don't think Trump could use the "Insanity Defense" He could try the "Stupid Asshole Defense" though. Not sure if it would help.

It's actually 'diminished capacity' and, given his age, it would be possible to say that he would have grounds but it doesn't necessarily avoid an actual sentence – you mention Hinkley, who spent over twenty years in a mental hospital. Trump could wind up in a nursing home that specializes in care for those with dementia. He is unlikely to be impeached (I think he would pull a Nixon if that looked close,) let alone tried for 'high crimes and misdemeanors'. If the Dems managed to swing the House in 2018, they are unlikely to take the Senate (even with… Read more »

As long as they lock him up somewhere and get him off the street, I don't care!

Of course he can. He can pardon himself.

Insanity can be determined and it is difficult to fool the experts.
He's not insane, he's an asshole.
Being an asshole is not a good defense strategy.

Well, if he plead insanity, he would be removed from office whether or not his impeachment trial convicted him of wrongdoing. Works for me!

Sure, it's possible. But everyone should realize that even if found "not guilty by reason of insanity", the accused person doesn't just stroll out of the courtroom free and clear. In this case, even though the court record may indicate a "not guilty" judgement, the punishment/corrective-action for them still involves being locked up in a looney bin, which is as bad if not worse than prison.

Here's where I think this will lead. We know that Muller has looked through Trumps personal and business financial histories. His remit is looking for evidence of conspiring with a foreign power. But, if he finds any anomalies in Trumps history, he's not going to ignore them; he may refer them to another department of the FBI, or the tax authorities, or whoever. The moment Trump leaves office, through impeachment, resignation, or he just ends his term, these will cone back and get him. Now, we are talking about financial histories going back DECADES. In order to make an insanity… Read more »
