In October 2019, Henri Pihkala from Streamr demonstrated Swash, the world’s first Data Union powered by Streamr’s Community Products infrastructure.
Watch how in this presentation and Q&A at Mozfest, London, Henri goes through all the basics and helps the audience become the very first users of Swash and get paid for their browsing data.
What’s a Data Union?
Your devices generate a huge amount of data, but on its own, it holds little value and there is no reliable way to monetize it. A data union is a new technical concept where information from multiple users is aggregated into a single valuable product for trade, with functionality for individual providers to earn from their contribution.
Swash (formerly Surf-Streamr) is a plugin available for Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge (Chromium version), which allows you to monetise the data you generate whilst using your browser. What data you share with the outside world is fully controlled by you. Your information is sent to a data union where it is combined with other’s data and sold on your behalf (by the team who have built Swash) on the Streamr Marketplace.
