Her name is Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam. Most people know her as M.I.A. She’s been renowned over the past 14 years for her music, and for her politics. Her father was the founder of the Tamil Resistance Movement in Sri Lanka, where she spent much of her childhood, before fleeing the country’s civil war with her mother and siblings.
