Another æstheic improvement would have been the use of a color-coordinated cap finial, just as on the bordeaux versions.

What the F***, 1510 EUROS ?! It's absolutely not worth this amount of money ! O.O

I like the design but could never justify buying this pen for myself. I was very disappointed at the letters being cut off when the pen is capped. I hope the Montblanc designers see this video and recall and refund all customers then redesign the pen correctly.

The nib looked to have quite a lot of excess ink on it when you first unpacked the pen ?

The star at the end of the pen is not a flower; It seems to be a Star of David. Was Montblanc started by a Jewish family? Their line of pens seem to honor education which I will note is part of Jewish heritage as is the desire to give back through charitable giving …they seem to be conscious of heritage. Do you know about their beginnings.?

It has characters from Sanskrit script too. Nice……

Not sure if it was the UNICEF theme, but you were happy as a child in this video! 🙂 Very nice one.

Thanks for a great review of an attractive pen. It is way out of my budget range. Mont Blanc royal blue ink is beautiful, and I'll get a bottle. You sure are handsome.

I am one of those who do find the design with the different characters appealing, as I have studied some of the languages represented on the pen and I have fondness for scripts in general. I do agree with you on the center band positioning, overlapping those letters does not look that well thought out… As far as I can see, it is only the letter "A" represented throughout the design, in various scripts, at least the ones I recognize, so maybe they decided the characters are repeated anyway so it did not matter if the cap partially covers them… Read more »

I am not willing to spend that much, but I really like the design with the characters. Thank you for the review.

Thank you, Stephen. I agree that the characters on the body should not be cut off by the cap. But the piston has an adequate amount of silicone grease. So there's that going for it. (It really looks like a Jinhao with cleaner machining to me.)

If I were in the market for a pen in this price range (I wish), this would not be the pen for me. It just didn't really do anything to excite me. Yes it's a good writer but hugely overpriced. Quite honestly I'm sure I'd be just as happy with a plain old black MB from their normal range.

Hi Stephen, thank you for reviewing this pen. I think the characters are fascinating and they fit in with the UNICEF theme very well. I agree that they should have it cap above the barrel characters and for that price as well. Unfortunately, this pen is well outside my budget, but it is nice to see your review of it.

For the price of this pen, I'd rather have three Yard-O-Leads – One in every finish!

Is someone sweeping or cleaning in the background?

Lovely review but I must agree cutting the lettering off with cap band is just messy and not what I expect from Montblanc

Stephen, on all Montblancs I won't give up my Japanese pens!

Is this posh Diplomat pen?

No, not just you. If you are going to pay $1500 for a pen, then the aesthetics of its body should be impeccable. I agree with you. Montblanc is not a new kid on the block when it comes to their pens, or this caliber and price mark.

Nice pen, bit glitzy for me, but for sure would have meaning for others re the various languages etc. Me personally, really liked the St Exupery.
Thanks Stephen!

It's hard to find active Fountain Pen Youtubers these days. Dan Smith hasn't been uploading since 2015, and he would've been my favorite. Well sir, you got me to click the subscribe button.

Don't worry about the price. If it ever becomes really popular the Chinese will make a knockoff for $14.99

I tested this pen at a Montblanc boutique..it's fabulous. The pen in real life is more vibrant and impressive than in the video. You can find it new on eBay for $900-1000 US. No ink window is no big deal..if it runs out just fill it up..not like running out of gas in the middle of nowhere. So far my experience with Montblanc has been very good including their after sales service…replacing nibs, and just general maintenance and tune ups on older pens.

Totally agree about both the ink window and the characters being cut off. I like that MB are donating to Unicef… good on them… but if someone was to pay 1500 Euros for a pen these things shouldn't be an issue.

That's one thick ass fine nib if you ask me.
