Phares on a Mideast Panel in Congress: These Protests are not going Back

As a member of a special panel on the protests in Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon, Dr. Walid Phares, co-secretary general of the Transatlantic Parliamentary Group, TAG, addressed remarks on the Lebanon protests, Hezbollah, and US policy.

Offering his comments along with speakers on Iraq and Iran, Phares explained the historical background of Lebanon’s uprising since the formation of the Republic in 1943, going through the war of 1975-1990, the Syrian occupation, the Cedars revolution in 2005, Hezbollah coup in 2008, until the current revolution that started last October. Phares explained the various equations including the militia, civil society, and the army. He concluded that regardless of who actually controls the ground, these protests are not going backward.
