Rebellion: On the frontlines of Hong Kong's uprising | Four Corners

The metropolis of Hong Kong – normally one of the world’s most vibrant yet orderly cities – has been convulsed by turmoil, as its people rise up against mainland Chinese rule.

Pro-democracy protestors have repeatedly seized control of key parts of the city, including its airport. These “flash mob” actions are designed to create maximum chaos and embarrassment for the city’s political leadership and their masters in Beijing. It has become an epic battle of wills.

In this program, we go to the frontline of the protests, capturing the full force of the escalating violence with extraordinary footage.

Images of hardcore protestors dressed in masks, black t-shirts and yellow helmets – known as ‘front-liners’ – have dominated the news.

We’ll introduce you to those behind the masks, who are risking everything for their cause.

If their actions weren’t already provocative enough, some in the movement are hoping their actions will inspire the Chinese people to rise up.

Why don't you record those rioters hit the peoples who are not agreed with them ,and destroy cars , and hit the real innocent people! I watched over instant news about riots , there are so many fake news allover HK . Four Corners, why didn't you record the rioters attacking the police ? Why didn't you record the riots attacking a innocent people and destroy his van in Central? Why? This documentary just report from your own perspective, and you are supporting the rioters.

I must admit I have had a neutral position on the Chinese government over the past 25 years. I'm inspired to the point of tears (VERY RARE) watching these young people resist the degenerate Criminal Communist Regime. We're with you to the end. The Criminal CCP will be swept away into the dustbin of history. You're done Winnie the Poo, Hong Kong and China will be free.

No one ever dreamed the USSR and the East German criminals would collapse and ten days later they were done. Coming to a theater near you Shanghai and Beijing.

Many are suspected to be Mainland army in disguise….this government is corrupted.

This was a very insightful video, good to have gained some key thoughts and views of the protestors/rioters side. Not surprisingly it was largely pro-democracy/protestor point of view, with little balance given to the pro-China side. So much has happened over the past few months and I’m disappointed the western media have not shown a balanced view. The protestors/rioters have done so much to destroy HK themselves and ruin the lives on their own fellow peaceful or neutral citizens (the large majority), that I can’t fully support their cause. Most of the general public don’t view the live streams and… Read more »

the video contains false information. i have the freedom to do whatever i want now, just same as before 1997. why do you stop people going to work/taking their flight at the airport when you express your views? why do you use violence on people who have different political views? why do you damage mtr, facilities and government property? why can’t other people live their normal lives when you protest? why can’t other people have their own views? stop the violence! not just talking. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

For those who live in Hong Kong knows it is not the true side of the story! These people are just rioters destroying the peace of Hong Kong… we lost our freedom of speech not because of mainland China or oppression by the HKSAR Government, but those masked mob. They hit those who are not with them or not share the same opinion with them… if they are real fighter for freedom, they first of all should not seize our right to talk publicly and make us fear of our own safety when even taking public transport. BTW, why can’t… Read more »

Its funny the western world is so passionate about democracy in hk after its handed back to china 97 and not one word about democracy during uk’s colonisation. Do hk people not think there a slight suspicion that the western world is just using hk as a tool to defame china, because they fear a rising asian power? Why does no one support democracy and freedom for the people in scotland? the british virgin islands? 😂 So naive to think that its really just about idealism and not political strategies
