Every time I witness a woman on television engaging injournalism, whether in a light puff piece or a deep dive into very serioussubject matter, my first thoughts are not how poignant or momentous  but of how physically deep into  pageantry her appearance is, as if she had astaff of twenty advising on hair dye shade, lip color coverings and of courseeye make-up, often with the suggestion of a lot or just a hint depending on thedegree of distraction to be tolerated.
