Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country will not turn its back on the European Union, speaking in Ankara on Monday.
“We have had conflicts with the European Union and some EU countries in recent years because the given promises were not kept, and we have been given hard time by unfair accusations,” said Erdogan. “For sure, it is out of question to turn our backs to the geography [Turkey’s position in Europe], who is our biggest trade partner, and where more than five million Turks as well as millions of sincere friends live,” he added.
Commenting on the ties with the United States, Erdogan added, “even if it is not in the level we desire, we can say that there is a progress in the path of common understanding.
