When we give tax breaks for corporations we expect them to give us a reason, such as AI research at Amazon. It will remove need for human labor but we still give the break. Giving UBI to people without any reporting is the problem. If I were to get it, I’d be okay to report my efforts to use the money towards self improvement or job searching, learning new skills in trade schools paid for by the UBI. UBI is not good if it’s a simple check in the mail. Like unemployment insurance we have to show up and report… Read more »

Shapiro and Rogan are intellectual commenters.
Petersen an ongoing social practicer. Yang and Musk are modern social reformers w/ experience.

I love how people with money can easily dismiss the idea that UBI could help Americans breathe a little easier. Never mind the fact that people are working 2 jobs or underemployed and are so stressed because they can't make ends meet but as long as they keep busy they should be fine.

Either there will be a UBI with the fiat currency or we'll do it with crypto. Out of our way.

Only problem I have with Yang’s UBI is his lack on inclusion of children. If you don’t include children in UBI (at least at a half rate) then you disproportionately disadvantage families with children. TL;DR: comparing a childless couple to a single parent family with 3 kids, the increasing expenses fueled by UBI hits the parent x4 while the UBI benefits them at 25% the rate it benefits a single person. UBI that doesn’t include at least a 1/2 rate for children will be disastrous for families (who already struggle disproportionately) while boosting childless adults (who are already doing the… Read more »

A lot of people on disability do not do much with their time because showing they are physically capable of doing anything is likely to lose them their disability check, even something like volunteering risks losing your benefits.

How much “purpose” do people get from their Walmart and Amazon warehouse jobs? None. Hence the suicides.

I have known many including myself who have had to work at jobs they hated just to survive if they had a basic income they would grow tomatoes and give most of them away they would help others like the elderly if they weren't Forced to work a Job that Drains their motivation just to survive. I am almost 60 I have Worked from age 12 Owned several Profitable Businesses I am Retired Now As I look back I Realize that People used to work for themselves and their Families until the Elite Started Brain Training Everyone from Child Hood… Read more »

Shapiro is silly when he compares the AI revolution with the industrial. If you believe that AI can become smarter than the human brain and that robots can become more agile than the human body (which pretty much every expert in the field agrees on), then there's no need for human labor in any areas what so ever. The only thing there is left at this point is harvesting organs and even that is only a thing if stem cell research doesn't make any advantages. The key to this issue is Yang's last sentence. The problem with finding a solution… Read more »

I love the irony of people who don't think the government should tell people what to do, suddenly coming up with their own ideas of what people need to do with their money

3:34 Shapiro: "…the supposition that there's a group of legitimate unemployable…. I'm pretty skeptical of that line of thought." Maybe Shapiro was asleep during the last presidential election where people were not saying "we want a government handout". They were saying "Jobs, jobs, jobs." You cannot go by the normal measure of unemployment rate because we know this is not meaningful anymore. It doesn't count people who have stopped looking for work and have given up, or people who are working part time but would like to (or need to) work full time. And it doesn't reflect that people may… Read more »

Peterson wants to judge a program based on the most damaged people.

Um yang and musk have amazing minds and compassion for humanity while Shapiro and Peterson are hacks that think keeping people in poverty will somehow make them work harder to succeed.. unreal. Ubi isn’t for taking care of someone completely it’s about giving everyone a leg up. Why this concept is so problematic to them is because they like to feel superior and their sense of superiority would be shook if less people were struggling through abject poverty.

So let's see if I get this:Musk: I can see what's about to happen and as I'm in the middle of it we need to help people prepare¥Peterson: Because 3% of people will piss it up the wall or kill themselves with it (I love "leaving Las Vegas") we shouldn't have it ?Classing the 80%+ who would benefit as inconsequential??? (Don't think I'm straw manning).Shapiro: I get the idea and I understand the benefit so let's just wait till we have 50% unemployment. Or better still we could revert to the medieval system of "Serfdom", cause at least everyone believed… Read more »

Ben flat out lied (or was very misinformed) about why it stopped in Ontario and that it “incentivized people not to work”, the ONLY two groups who ere incentivized not to work were new mothers (who took time off to spend caring for their infants) and high school and early college aged students who used the time freed up from not working to increase their study load. I think both of these groups SHOULDN’T be working as their primary focus. Mothers should be with infants and young children and students should focus on academic excellence.
