USA's Alex Morgan defends tea-cup celebration before World Cup final

The USA forward Alex Morgan says the criticism of her goal celebrations at the Women’s World Cup is an example of the double standards put on female players. Morgan caused a stir when she pretended to drink tea after scoring for USA against England in the 2-1 semi-final victory in Lyon. The reigning world champions, USA, face Netherlands in the World Cup final on Sunday.

I always thought men's soccer was the most boring sport in the world
but I was completely wrong, ….. women's soccer is even more boring.
I would have watched but I spent that time watching paint dry instead.
And how in the HELLL does the US end up in the finals against a tiny little
country like the Netherlands ? 90 % of Americans didn't even know the
Netherlands was still a country until this weekend.

EVERY interesting sport has it's roots in the US and I wonder if
Europe will ever discover American football and baseball.

I love how she finds a way to bring men into it. Her celebration and subsequent reactions to it have nothing to do with double standards. Plenty of male athletes have been called out for unsportsmanlike celebrations. Hence the term unsportsMANLIKE.

FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT. I wish the world was not what it is but equality is not something we as a nation have come to terms with . This statement is not a justification but a hope we will some day realize war is not the answer. PLEASE, we can no longer afford nor allow any more of our children to be victims of government invasions to a cause that profits just a few,

You piece of trash celebrated 12th goal against less gifted team like it was the winning goal in a final. Americans should learn about this thing called respect.

Double standards.. gender discrimination..this is getting old old old.
Didn't work for Serena Williams; not going to work for anyone.
I'm English and I love to see English stereotypes depicted by foreigners. It's genuinely endearing to me.

There is nothing to apologise for Alex. Snow flakes strike again!!!
So Ellen Whites "these foreigners are all blind and need glasses" celebration is fine with the British snow flakes??
But reminding brits they sip tea is offensive. Sore losers in the uk says it all. When did the english forget " its the taking part that counts" ???

Well the English teamakers ought to PAY Alex Morgan. She has done more to boost tea sales than all their sales pitches for decades put together. I don't see anything disrespectful with it at all. Hey girl, you score a goal like that and the whole universe will give you license to do pretty much whatever you want to do to celebrate it. Actually, I can't think of a more succinct way to compliment the Brits. Without uttering a single word, Alex was able to say "We came, we drank your tea, and we played beautiful soccer. Let's have some… Read more »

In other words someones had a word with her. Amazing player, pity she had to appear to bring politics into it. Doesn't come over very well on interview either, not much chance of becoming a football/soccer pundit I'd say.
